A Wall in My Room: Part 3

People’s taste evolves. It grows more complex and requires more to satisfy its increasing appetite. Starting in August, I decorated my wall with pieces of things found in the world around me. I started small with a piece of driftwood from Lake Champlain in Vermont and a few odds and ends from a flea market in Woolwich, Maine. From there I found a blanket at a garage sale and an American flag at an antique mall near my school. Recently, I pulled everything down and added some new finds.
My most prized piece of L.L. Bean clothing I own: vintage barn jacket.

My two favorite packs.
Face t0 face.

Shoes I have loved.
I like red details.

I enjoy the process of envisioning something and then trying my best to execute it, even more than the final result. In a few months I will grow restless and take it all down again, but I am okay with that.

A Wall in My Room: Part 2

Used things have stories more dynamic and textured than anything bought in a store on black Friday. They may be harder to find and have problems, but this only adds to their story. Here are some of my favorite used things that I have found over the last few months.

I picked up these white bucks at the Kiwanis in Ann Arbor this summer. The Longwings are my tried and true Ralph Lauren’s. I found this trading blanket at a yard sale for 8 dollars. Somewhere along the line, pink edging was sewn on to protect frayed edges.

Rust and white.
I got these overalls at Stock Vintage. They are from the 30′s and have decades of blood and grease worn into the denim.
I found this flag at a flea market near my school. It’s now displayed front and center. Red, White and blue.
This holiday season, find gifts that tell stories.

A Wall in my Room

I am always on the lookout for antiques, books, memorabilia, and clothes to decorate my room. These pieces tell a story and inspire me. It is a work in progress. Some mornings I wake up and move or add something, only to take it down the following evening.

A Maine National Bank money pouch. I love the stitching of letters and the repair stitching on the zipper.
An old wooden picture frame. I like how its not square and has varying grain densities.

An 81 year-old Maine license plate. I like its colors and font and also like to postulate about its story and the car it belonged to. It is fun to imagine what Maine was like in 1928.

A printed water color of Brant Point Lighthouse on Nantucket.
A small crutch made from one piece of wood. Judging by the nails I’m guessing its from the twenties or thirties.

A piece of driftwood from Emma’s house on Lake Champlain. I like its shape.
I have deliberately left space to add more pieces and will post about my wall’s progress from time to time. Right now I am in the process of picking my own prints to decorate the wall.
